Summary & Theme Essay?

Summary Essay는 원서의 내용을 간결하고 핵심적으로 요약하는 글을 말하고 Theme Essay는 원서 속 주제를 깊이 있게 분석하고 설명하는 글을 말한다. 따라서 Summary Essay는 이야기의 핵심 내용을 빠르고 정확하게 전달하는 것이 목표고, Theme Essay는 작품이 전달하는 주제를 논리적으로 분석하는 것이 핵심이다.

Essay 평가 기준에 따른 Esaay 쓰기 방법

DUX에서는 Topic, Structure, Expression, Grammar를 토대로 학생들의 Essay를 평가하는 만큼 각 항목별로 Tip은 다음과 같다.

(3) Expression (표현력)

- 간결하고 명확한 문장 사용

- 적절한 연결어 사용

  예시) First, Moreover, However, Consequently, As a result, In conclusion 등

- 동어 반복 피하기(같은 단어나 문장을 계속 쓰면 글이 지루하게 느껴짐)

  ※ 동의어(Synonyms) 사용

    "important" → "significant", "crucial", "essential"

    "shows" → "demonstrates", "reveals", "illustrates“

    ❌ "The author shows... The author shows..."

    ✅ "The author demonstrates... The author portrays...“

   ※ 문장 구조를 다양하게 바꾸기

    ❌ "The theme of power is important in the novel. The theme of power influences the 

         characters."

    ✅ "Power plays a crucial role in shaping the characters' actions and decisions throughout 

         the novel."

(4) Grammar (문법 정확성)

- 시제 일관성 유지 

   Summary Essay와 Theme Essay 모두 현재형을 사용하는 것이 일반적

- 주어와 동사 일치 체크!

  ❌ "The themes in the novel is significant."

  ✅ "The themes in the novel are significant."

- 대명사 사용 주의! 

   it, they, this가 정확히 무엇을 지칭하는지 명확
